A Limeña Student Dreams

As a young citizen of Honduras, I would like to see my nation improve. I want to be able to go out at night and feel confident that I will not end up being kidnapped or robbed. I want the citizens of my country to have enough money for what everyone deserves: a home, clothing, education, food, and a family.
By Teresa Isabel Romero
Dear President Lobo: First of all congratulations on your new job! I didn´t vote for you, but I hope you can prove me wrong for not voting for you. I hope you can do a better job than did our last president and try to make Honduras a better place, a place where people would want to live because they feel safe, because they can feel free and can find a good home and job.
You must be wondering who is this little girl trying to tell you how to rule your country. My name is Teresa Isabel Romero. I am twelve years old and I'm in the 6th Grade at the Escuela Internacional La Lima, or EILL. I am proud to say that EILL is one of the best schools in Honduras. It teaches intellectual and moral values. Other than studying at school, I also have my hobbies. I love to play tennis. I would ask you to promote this sport and provide some money to fix our poor courts back at La Lima.
I think family comes first, but there is no doubt that education plays a big and important role in our life and helps us in the future. You should improve our educational system. A big problem with public schools are the teachers. Unfortunately, most of them don´t have the same motivation as the students. I think that if you are becoming a teacher you should do it for the kids and not for the money.
My dream has a lot to do with education. My goal is to achieve good academic records so I can earn a full scholarship at the University of Berkeley in California. I need a scholarship because there is no way I would be able to afford the tuition at such a university. I want to become a good teacher. I think I can help students become something greater than they can ever imagine. I can help them reach for the stars and be an example for other through their morals and ideals.

One of the first things I would like you to do is help Haiti. They are suffering so much, and that could be us one day. You should organize a fundraiser for them. Our school is collecting food cans, and that is one of the reasons I am proud of my school. I am sure you can come up with a billion ideas to help them, but some people don´t really want to. That is why we need to motivate Hondurans and show them how much the people of Haiti are going through. I really hope you make a good president and that my letter is not too long or boring for you.
Thank you very much for your time.
Sincerely proud to be Honduran. (2/10/10)
