Toncontín's Runway Extended by 984 Feet
Tuesday, 02 March 2010 08:49
The 984-foot extension of the runway at Tegucigalpa's Toncontín International Airport has been completed and was inaugurated yesterday by Airports of Honduras. The airport's single asphalt runway previously had a length of 7,096 feet. The project, which cost Lps 54 million (US$2.86 million), will allow for safer take-offs and landings at the airport and provide space to accommodate slightly larger commercial aircraft, and thus more visitors to Honduras. Seven airlines, including American, Continental, Delta and TACA, currently operate out of one or more of Honduras' four international airports in Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba, and Roatán, averaging a total of 40 international and domestic flights daily. Toncontín is located at an altitude of 3,294 feet. (3/2/10) (photo of Toncontín airport courtesy Internet)
