The Institute of Tourism (IHT) along with several Honduran tour operator companies and hotels exhibited at the 30th annual International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) in Madrid, Spain on January 20-24. The international event allowed participants to network, promote their services and destinations, and evolve new marketing strategies. The show, organized by Feria de Madrid or "IFEMA", is the largest of its kind. It was expected to draw 12,312 exhibitors from 170 countries/regions and more than 135,000 trade visitors. Some 8,470 journalists covered FITUR.
The previous major international tourism trade fair in which Honduras participated was the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, England, during November 9-12, 2009. Sharing exhibit space with the IHT at that show were Garifuna Tours, Henry Morgan Resort Hotel, Maya Temple Tours, Mayan & Caribbean Travel, MC Tours, and Mesoamerica Travel. The WTM attracted over 50,000 visitors.
