Sunwing Charter Flights Boost Tourism in Roatán

The start up flights in December by Sunwing Airlines of Toronto, Canada to Roatán has helped fuel an increase in the number of international commercial aircraft landings at Juan Manuel Gálvez airport from 10 flights per week to to 23. According to the airport's general manager, Shanna Ebanks, three Sunwing charter aircraft arrived in Roatán this week carrying a total of 455 passengers. Sunwing operates a small fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering direct flights to Roatán from Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg. It also flies directly to La Ceiba from Toronto. The airline offers discount vacation packages through its sister company, Sunwing Vacations, which features six hotels in Roatán, including the Henry Morgan and Beach Resort, the Turquoise Bay Dive and Beach Resort, and the Infinity Bay Spa and Beach Resort.
