Spirit Airlines Markets Honduras as Destination

Spirit Airlines announced on Friday that, as a sign of its support for Honduras as a travel destination, its aircraft staff will wear aprons featuring the Honduras Institute of Tourism’s logo on all flights in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean through the end of March 2010. This joint marketing effort between Spirit Airlines and the Institute of Tourism, which follows the cancellation of the US travel alert on December 8, reinforces the airline’s belief in Honduras as a credible tourism destination. “We are thrilled to be partnering with Spirit Airlines on this marketing effort, and to share the Honduras brand with all of its passengers in the next three months,” stated Ana Abarca, Minister of Tourism for Honduras. “Honduras appreciates Spirit’s continued support, and we are ready to show the world how tourism in our remarkable destination is bouncing back better than ever.”

The four-times-a-week flights to San Pedro Sula have consistently operated at or near capacity since their inception in July 2007. In addition, in response to an increase in demand in recent weeks, Spirit has added additional service for the 2009 holiday season. “Since we began working with Honduras over two years ago, Spirit Airlines has always believed that the country offers a unique travel destination to visitors,” said Manuel Jaquez, Corporate Communications, Latin America & Caribbean for Spirit Airlines. “The influx in capacity in the last few weeks indicates to us that travelers are eager once again to visit the destination on vacation or to visit family members.”

The black aprons, featuring the “Honduras: The Central America You Know –- The Country You’ll Love” logo, will be onboard all of Spirit’s flights over the next three months.
