Earthquakes Measuring 4.9 and 6.1 Hit Yoro

Two earthquakes were recorded today in Honduras, according to the country's emergency management agency, COPECO. A quake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale and a depth of 1 kilometer hit at 11:45 am in the department of Yoro. It was followed at 11:47 am by a magnitude 4.6 aftershock, with a depth of 19.6 kms, near the village of La Masica in the department of Atlantida. A magnitude 6.1 quake, with a depth of 50 kms, hit at 11:56 am near the village of La Rosa in Yoro. COPECO's commissioner, Julio César Cruz, reported damage to at least 30 homes in the community of Lotiwi and another 15 homes in Guadalupe -- both in Yoro. (2/11/10)
