Mario Canahuati Named Foreign Minister

Mario Canahuati will be Honduras' next Foreign Minister. The appointment was announced Wednesday by President-elect Porfirio Lobo. Mr. Canahauti served as ambassador to the United States under the administration of President Ricardo Maduro (2002-2006). He was also Mr. Lobo's Vice-Presidential running mate in 2005 when Mr. Lobo lost his first presidential bid against Manuel Zelaya. Mr. Canahuati is a businessman from San Pedro Sula. He is a former president of the Honduran National Business Council (COHEP) and founder of the nonprofit foundation MHOTIVO, dedicated to educating children in Honduras.
