Micheletti Declines Offer to Sit With Zelaya
Last Updated on Wednesday, 20 January 2010 09:09
A day after President-elect Porfirio Lobo proposed the formation of an advisory council consisting of former presidents of Honduras, interim president Robert Micheletti on Tuesday stated that he would not sit on any panel alongside deposed president Manuel Zelaya. "There is nothing to learn from someone who has caused so much damage to the country's economy" said Mr. Micheletti. He noted that if Mr. Lobo asks his counsel, he will gladly provide it in private, but he reiterated that he would not sit at the same table with Mr. Zelaya "because pure and simple this country is suffering because of him". Mr. Lobo's advisory council would consist of six former presidents, including Mr. Micheletti, Mr. Zelaya, Roberto Suazo Córdova (1982-1986), Rafael Callejas (1990-1994), Carlos Flores (1998-2002), and Ricardo Maduro (2002-2006).
