Mel Calls on Resistance Movement to Push for National Constituent Assembly
Last Updated on Wednesday, 09 December 2009 08:02
In a letter written on Tuesday to the leaders of the National Resistance Front Against the Coup d'Etat, deposed president Manuel "Mel" Zelaya urged the movement to aggressively pursue its fight for the establishment of a National Constituent Assembly -- la Constituyente -- that would better represent the interests of the majority of Hondurans. Mr. Zelaya wrote, "The resistance has a great mission to complete, transforming itself into a belligerent force and a platform for political coordination, and serving as an axis for coordinating and uniting progressive political forces without losing its own identity." According to Mr. Zelaya, the platform of which he writes would move the elite class in Honduras to "recognize that we Hondurans do not have masters, that we want freedom, that we all have the right to life and to live in better conditions".
