Letters to the Editor

Humberto López Villamil

alt

I am an American who is considering retirement in Honduras, which led me to your fine website. I am looking for information on Humberto López Villamil, a well-known Honduran diplomat, with whom I had a memorable lunch in Lima, Peru many years ago. I believe him to be deceased, but would love to know if there is an obituary available that talks about his life. Thanks and gracias.

False sermons from high thrones...

This letter is in reference to an article published in Tegucigalpa's El Heraldo newspaper which says that Cardinal Óscar Rodríguez Maradiaga denies the accusations being leveled against the Catholic Church. The article was published on April 1, 2010.

It leaves a negative impression to see those who from their high thrones and dressed in splendorous golden gowns preach false sermons to those dressed in the color of copper. Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga denies and considers to be false the accusations that have been made against pedophile priests for many years. The Pope is aware of and has admitted publicly what our Cardinal denies. The cover up of these crimes is another major offense, as it is what has forced thousands upon thousands of innocent children to suffer throughout the course of history. It is also a great crime to lie to the public and especially to one's parishioners who consider the Church to be their last refuge. This truly is painful.

Zelaya will continue making trouble for Honduras...

I have always had a concerned interest in Honduras. I was raised and lived there for many years. Since it was the first home I had, I consider it my home and always loved it. I have been concerned about the rise of liberal communism in Central America for years. I worked in Guatemala in the 1950s and remember that Guatemala was the first country in the world that revolted against a communist government and succeeded. As far as Mr. Zelaya is concerned, he should not have been set free. That is where Honduras made a big mistake that will continue to haunt them. He will continue to make trouble for Honduras for as long as he lives. The picture you have of Edmundo Orellana conveys one of an egomaniac with an aim of taking control of Honduras.
