United States Vice-President Joe Biden will travel to Honduras on March 6 to meet with President Porfirio Lobo to discuss US-Honduras relations. While in Tegucigalpa, Vice-President Biden will participate in a meeting with Central American presidents, who have been invited to a joint session the Central American Integration System (SICA) by President Lobo, who currently serves as President Pro Tempore of SICA. The issue of crime and security is expected to be one of the main topics of discussion, and specifically the growing support in the area for legalizing drugs as a strategy for reducing violence. Mr. Biden will also take advantage of the SICA reunion to discuss with leaders the upcoming sixth Summit of the Americas planned for Cartagena, Colombia on April 14-15. President Barack Obama has already announced that he will attend the Summit, which will focus on leveraging connections and partnerships within the Western Hemisphere to improve the lives of people throughout the region.
