Ortega Feels Threatened by Lobo Government
Last Updated on Sunday, 31 January 2010 13:33
Nicaragua's president, Daniel Ortega, announced Saturday that he will not recognize the government of President Porfirio Lobo because he considers it "a continuation of the military coup" in Honduras. "We are confronting a difficult situation that weakens the process of Central American integration, contaminates the region, and because of that our position has been clear in the sense that we cannot recognize a government that does not have the strength needed to make decisions without being influenced by those who perpetuated the coup" said President Ortega. The Sandinista Party leader added that he felt endangered by the overthrow of Manuel Zelaya on June 28 because he felt it may tempt other countries in the region to follow the example. "We feel threatened, are threatened, and so we cannot recognize the new government of Honduras." (photo of Daniel Ortega courtesy Internet)
