Canada Funds Agricultural Scholarships for Indigenous Students
Last Updated on Friday, 18 December 2009 08:57
The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) signed an agreement with Honduras' Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to provide more than Lps 5 million for a scholarship program that will allow 40 youth from the Ladina, Nahua, Misquita and Pech indigenous tribes to study agricultural sciences at the University of Honduras and at the Pompilio Ortega school in Macuelizo (Santa Bárbara) and the John F. Kennedy school in the department of Atlántida. The scholarships are for 2010. CIDA maintains a number of collaborative relationships with institutions in Honduras that focus on agriculture and forestry education. Funding for the scholarships is coming from money left over from an agricultural program sponsored by CIDA in the department of Olancho during 1999-2003 called Project Guayape.
