Carlos Pavón Voted Most Popular Soccer Player in the World

Carlos Pavón, the veteran star forward for Honduras' national soccer squad, has been voted the most popular soccer player in the world by the international soccer federation FIFA. During the past year, FIFA's International Federation of Statistics held an online contest, and Mr. Pavón received the most number of votes from fans around the world. His 195,182 votes easily outpaced his closest competitor, Turkey's Arda Turan, who garnered 91,887 votes. There were a total of 115 candidates in the online competition. The charismatic Mr. Pavón has scored 56 goals in his career as a member of the Honduran national team. In 2009, he scored 14 goles in international competition, earning him fifth place among FIFA players.
